Managing complications of traveller's gastroenteritis
Liam is a 22-year-old uni student who presents with diarrhoea a few days after returning from a month-long holiday in India.
The last week of his holiday was spent with his girlfriend's relatives in a rural area. Just before leaving India five days ago, Liam developed fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramping.
The fever resolved after 24 hours, but he is still having watery, loose bowel motions at least four times a day preceded by abdominal cramps. No abnormality is detected on physical examination with the exception of increased bowel sounds. He has had no vomiting, and is eating
