Painful hands in pregnancy
Tingling in both hands and shooting pain in the wrists keep this young pregnant woman up at night

Lucy, a 27-year-old woman is 19 weeks pregnant with her second child.

She presents with severe numbness and tingling in both hands, especially the index, middle and ring fingers.
There is shooting pain from the wrists and her symptoms are so severe that it wakes her at night.
Lucy says she hasn't been able to have a good night's sleep in the previous four weeks. When she wakes up, she walks around the house shaking her hands until her symptoms abate sufficiently for her to get back to sleep.
In a previous pregnancy, she had similar but milder
