Working for a not-for-profit organisation, Aboriginal Medical Service allows you to provide holistic care to those in need and make a genuine difference to the health of Indigenous Australians.

This location is eligible for RVTS Targeted Recruitment https://rvts.org.au/applicants/targeted-recruitment . This is a comprehensive fully Government funded GP Vocational Training Program that leads to FRACGP and/or FACRRM. RVTS has a 90% Fellowship pass rate.

Our practices have national accreditation for General Practice and Dental services, and are accredited training provider for GP Registrars and offers student placements for TAFE and University students including medical, pharmacy, dental, mental health, nursing, social and emotional well-being, counselling and primary health care courses. We care about our community and the future health workforce who will one day service them.

This position is based in the Inverell Clinic and may also work at times in our various clinics located in Armidale, Glen Innes, Tenterfield and Tingha communities.

Inverell is located in rolling gemstone country on the MacIntyre River in north western NSW, this beautiful area is rich with nature, adventure, excellent community facilities and schools. There are twice weekly flights to Sydney and Brisbane and the drive to Armidale takes approximately 1.5 hours.

We offer a range of programs which are delivering to best practice standards in a culturally responsive and sensitive manner. These programs include General Practitioner clinics, Drug & Alcohol Program, Dental Services, Chronic disease management, Social and Emotional Wellbeing Services, Mental Health, Mens & Womens Health programs, Early Childhood, Mums n Bubs Programs, Family Healing Program and Transport to assist with getting to and from various clinics.

You will be well supported, with an extensive team of Aboriginal Health Workers, Nurses, Social Workers, Admin and Reception staff along with a team of Fellowed GPs and registrars. The teams focus is on working together to deliver excellent health outcomes for the community they support. Ongoing learning and development for the team is encouraged and supported.

We are seeking an experienced General Practitioner to join this energetic and community driven team. Ideally you will have achieved Fellowship in Australia, we will consider applications from GPs with General Registration and relevant GP experience within Australia. Applicants with experience working in an Aboriginal Medical Service or working with Aboriginal people will be highly regarded. We are also looking for applicants who would like to transition to an AMS role from private practice.

This position offers a good work-life balance, with increased consultation times, no after-hours or weekend work and the opportunity to become part of the community in a regional town that is welcoming and well serviced.

We have a range of visiting specialists and allied health providers which include access to a GP Obstetrician. On site there is visiting Dietician, Audiologist & Optometrist, Specialist Physician, Paediatrician, Podiatrist, Psychiatrist, ENT, Addictions Medicine Specialist, Exercise Physiologist, Psychology Services and Pathology Service.

Relocation grants and a site visit grant may be available for applicants to assist with the cost of attending an interview and relocating if appointed. These grants are provided by the NSW Rural Doctors Network to eligible applicants.
