Adelaide doctors have described an alarming case of acupuncture-gone-wrong in a 67-year-old man.
The man underwent acupuncture in order to get pain relief for an intramuscular haematoma he developed after gardening.
But after experiencing two days of rigors and left upper chest wall pain following the acupuncture, he presented to the emergency department at Royal Adelaide Hospital.
On examination, he was found to have 10cm-wide discharging axillary abscess surrounded by a red rash.
