Doctors discover man only has one kidney, and it's as flat as a pancake
Lots of little oddities show up incidentally when scanning patients, but this one really takes the cake.
When an 18-year-old man presented to an ED in New Delhi, India, with symptoms of an abdominal blockage, doctors ordered a CT.
But the scan revealed more than just his intestinal obstruction.
The patient’s kidneys — or kidney, to be more precise — were not only in the wrong place, located in his lower abdomen just above his bladder, but were also fused together into a single, flat mass. It's a condition known as ‘pancake kidney’.
