Rare ear growth

UK doctors have reported an unusual case of a young man who presented to the ED with a rapidly expanding growth in his right ear. 

The otherwise healthy 28-year-old said the growth had appeared suddenly and enlarged rapidly over a period of 3-4 weeks, to the point where it was causing him hearing loss. 

He could not recall any trauma to his ear and denied using cotton buds. 

The growth was excised under local anaesthesia and histology revealed that it was a pyogenic granuloma — a benign lesion of the skin and mucosa.
