Surgeons are preparing to remove giant bark-like growths from the hands and feet of a Bangladeshi man.

The growths, which first appeared 10 years ago, now weigh about 5kg each.

“Initially, I thought that they’re harmless,” the 26-year-old told AFP last month.

“But slowly, I lost all my ability to work. There are now dozens of 2-3-inch roots in both my hands. And there are some small ones in my legs.”

Doctors at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in Bangladesh diagnosed the man with epidermodysplasia verruciformis, an extremely rare genetic skin disease.
