11 projects that will look at improving GP care

Research on chlamydia, COPD and social media part of $200m medical research package

The Department of Health has announced $200 million in funding for 320 new medical research projects.

Among the wide range of projects, dozens focus on the development and implementation of new tools and guidelines to be used in general practice, while others will investigate emerging and growing health issues being seen in primary care.

Here are 11 of the most relevant for GPs:

  1. Survey of GPs and practice nurses on how they manage common conditions the results of whch wil be compaed with evidence based guidelines to help identify areas where care could be improved.

  2. An integrated model of chlamydia case management in general practice.

  3. A comprehensive risk prediction model for COPD to aid early detection.
