$300k fine for non-complying practices

MDA National risk adviser Allyson Alker told MO that “probably not many” of Australia’s 25,000 GPs had taken steps to comply with the 12 March 2014 change from the National Privacy Principles to the Australian Privacy Principles. The change includes new civil fines of up to $344,000 for individuals and $1.7 million for companies, such as practices, for breaching guidelines. It also gives the Information Commissioner broad new powers to demand that a business provide an information plan.
