GPs should not routinely screen for prostate cancer using a PSA test, or a digital exam, or prescribe antibiotics for otitis media in children with non-severe symptoms, new guidance on wasteful procedures says.

The two pieces of advice are part of a five-strong list of medical 'no-nos' drawn up by the American Academy of Family Physicians' (AAFP) as part of the Choosing Wisely program.
