A new emergency contraceptive made with the active ingredient ulipristal acetate is more effective than levonorgestrel, according to two independent clinical trials.
Launched locally by Marie Stopes International and marketed under the brand name EllaOne, it can be taken up to five days after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
