7 key points from new testosterone guidance

The Endocrine Society of Australia has released a position statement on testosterone.

Part one is published in the MJA today. Here are seven key points.

  1. Pathological hypogonadism confirmed by hormonal tests (total T, FH, FSH) is the only condition for which there is good evidence of a benefit of testosterone replacement therapy;
  2. Mass spectrometry is most accurate and preferred over immunoassays;
  3. Pathological hypogonadism can present in many ways including psychosexual symptoms or unexplained osteoporosis, anaemia or reduced muscle mass;
