7 tips to prevent food allergies in infants

  1. Carers can introduce a new food every three to five days in an age-appropriate manner, from 4-6 months, when baby is ready
  2. Mothers can continue to breastfeed while introducing solid foods
  3. Advise them to introduce potentially allergenic foods in small amounts
  4. If tolerated, they can continue to give the food while introducing other foods
  5. For infants who are not breastfed, there is some evidence that partially hydrolysed formulas may reduce the risk of allergic disease in high-risk infants with a history of allergy in their parents or siblings
