8 pointers on managing sepsis in pregnancy
With rates of maternal sepsis increasing and accounting for 11% of maternal deaths in Australia, new guidelines have been released on investigation and management of the condition.
The Society of Obstetric Medicine Australia and New Zealand has published eight key points for clinicians caring for women in pregnancy:
1. Sepsis can arise at any time in pregnancy and early signs may be masked by physiological changes of pregnancy
2. Sepsis can be quickly recognised using the obstetric modified SOFA (Sequential Organ Failure Assessment) score, when two or more of following are
