9 key changes to cosmetic procedure guidelines

The Medical Board of Australia has released new guidelines for doctors and nurses who perform cosmetic medical and surgical procedures.

The guidelines separate these procedures into major, which involves cutting beneath the skin; and minor, which may involve piercing the skin.

Here are some of the key points:

  • Practitioners should not perform a procedure if they believe it is not in the best interests of the patient;
  • There should be a cooling-off period of at least a seven days before procedures
