Access to injured man's doctors denied

A major Australian pharmaceutical company’s efforts to fish through the medical records of an injured worker who was claiming compensation have been blocked.

Pharmaceutical giant CSL wanted the Administrative Appeals Tribunal of Australia to order employee Con Tsartas to provide the company with a list from Medicare of all the doctors who had treated him over a six-year period so they could inspect the records.

The company suspected Mr Tsartas, an industrial chemist, may have sought treatment from doctors for symptoms similar to those for which he was claiming compensation
