Aged care reform caught in election spin cycle
It’s clear the aged care system we have today is not maturing rapidly enough to keep up with the aged care demands heading our way in the next few decades.
Burying our heads in the sand on this issue is not an option nor is it an option for the government and Opposition parties to put this important issue aside for the next election cycle.
This agenda is screaming out for a long term plan and a long term commitment from both sides of politics that gives the community a clear sense of direction and a belief that the aged care system is being managed and reorganised for the onslaught of people who will need a good standard of care in their old age.
The aged care system we have today is overstretched – it does not meet the service delivery required for palliative and end-of-life care, re-ablement and restorative care.
