AHPRA fails to investigate GP over terminal care

AHPRA mishandled the case of a GP accused of prescribing elderly patients “potentially lethal” doses of drugs to prematurely end their lives, leaked documents reveal.

The records, obtained by Fairfax, show the health watchdog failed to investigate several notifications made in 2014 about Dr Alan Kosky, which raised serious allegations about his conduct.

AHPRA has acknowledged investigations are yet to take place.

The allegations against Dr Kosky include that he provided or tried to provide end-of-life care to non-terminal patients, inappropriately prescribed painkillers, and provided false and misleading information to the regulator.

AHPRA has stated it “erroneously assumed” the Medical Board was already investigating the issues.
