An artificial intelligence (AI) program developed in part by US doctors can read hospital medical notes, and reliably predict the patients likely to need readmission to hospital.

The program created by New York University doctors and researchers – ‘NYUTron’ – can estimate a patient’s risk of dying, the potential length of their hospital stay, and other factors important to their care.
