Air force GP wants you to consider general practice

The WA GP gained her FRACGP qualification last year and has worked in Geraldton in Western Australia and Katherine in the Northern Territory, but it is her experience in the Royal Australian Air Force that sets her apart.

Dr Maus said she had enjoyed “some pretty amazing opportunities and experience” with the air force and hoped to inspire a passion for general practice in other young doctors.

“I have a keen interest in teaching uni students, as well as general practice registrars and other junior doctors,” she said.

Originally from Perth, Dr Maus applied for a Defence University Sponsorship in her third year at the University of Adelaide and has since been deployed on humanitarian missions and military exercises in Afghanistan, the Middle East, Samoa and hotspots around Australia. 

She has also been able to pursue specialist courses in military and emergency medicine and has earned several postgraduate
