Alcohol in pregnancy scheme targets GPs

Women should be advised to abstain from all alcohol during pregnancy, according to a new national campaign targeting GPs.

The campaign, comprising educational posters and brochures, was announced on Friday by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and DrinkWise Australia.

College fellow Professor Alec Walsh, head of the maternal fetal department at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney, said there was ongoing confusion in the community about how much women could safely drink during pregnancy.
