AMA accused of self-interest over Medicare

Health academics have accused the Australian Medical Association (AMA) of using “scare tactics” to protect its members’ income and interests.

Writing in The Conversation, adjunct associate professor Lesley Russell from the University of Sydney says that the AMA has a history of opposing Medicare reforms, and that upcoming negotiations would result in the AMA “crowding out others and zealously safeguarding turf, fee-for-service and doctors’ incomes”.
