AMA backs new alcohol-violence laws
The AMA in NSW has welcomed new laws targeting alcohol-fuelled violence announced by Premier Barry O’Farrell in the wake of growing public concerns.
Under the new legislation, which is expected to be passed by the NSW parliament next week, there will be:
- mandatory eight-year sentences for fatal one-punch assaults fuelled by drugs or alcohol.
- maximum 25-year sentences for supply and posession of steroids.
- maximum sentences of 16 years for sexual assault.
