AMA sets its sights on reversing Optometry Board’s actions

In a stinging attack today, AMA president Dr Steve Hambleton said the Optometry Board had “failed to genuinely consult with ophthalmologists” in relation to its recent decision to “effectively expand the scope of practice of optometrists beyond their training”.

“The Optometry Board of Australia has given the green light for optometrists to go it alone in managing patients with glaucoma and other serious eye conditions,” Dr Hambleton said in a statement.

He said the decision meant optometrists could start therapy
