Analgesics more effective without food: expert

Analgesics are safer and more effective if taken without food, according to an international expert in pain and biomedical research.

Professor Andrew Moore (pictured), pain expert from the University of Oxford, said on a recent visit to Australia that there was a common misconception that NSAIDs were more effective if taken with food.

“If you take analgesics with food, you halve the efficacy, meaning that the patient will take more of the drug, which in turn creates a higher chance of adverse drug effects,” Professor Moore said.
