Anti-nausea drugs linked to serotonin syndrome

Anti-nausea drugs such as ondansetron may cause serotonin syndrome when combined with other serotoninergic drugs such as antidepressants, the TGA warns.

In a new advisory statement, the regulator says 5-HT3 receptor antagonists such as granisetron, dolasetron, tropisetron, ondansetron and palonosetron have the potential to trigger serious reactions including death when used in combination with SSRIs and SNRI antidepressants.
