Antibiotics ineffective for treating sinusitis

Antibiotics are no better than placebo in easing symptoms among patients with acute rhinosinusitis, a study suggests.

The study of 166 adults with uncomplicated acute rhinosinusitis found a 10-day course of amoxicillin failed to reduce symptoms after three days of treatment, compared with placebo.

"There is now a considerable body of evidence from clinical trials conducted in the primary care setting that antibiotics provide little if any benefit for patients with
