Antipsychotics a last resort for dementia

Carers and families of those with dementia should be encouraged to monitor their treatment, especially where antipsychotics are involved, according to recommendations from a Senate Committee report.

The new report recommends that the use of antipsychotic medication be reviewed by the prescribing doctor after the first three months to assess ongoing need.
