Arthritis patients at paracetamol-related risk

Australians with arthritis may be at risk of potential paracetamol-related adverse effects due to lacking the health literacy to understand what is in their medications.

A study of 254 adult patients with arthritis found that many were not able to identify paracetamol as an active ingredient in both combination and paracetamol-only pharmaceuticals.

This was particularly true in combination products that did not contain the prefix ‘Pana’, the authors, from the University of Wollongong, found.
