Aussies develop robot pill to sniff out flatulence

Australian scientists have developed a robotic pill that can sniff and assess human intestinal gas to determine gut health.

The pill, or “gas capsule”, measures and assesses gas from selected species of the gut microbiome through a small molecular sensor.

The data, which tells a lot about the state of the gut, is transmitted to a laboratory for assessment. The pill itself is passed the conventional way.

The researchers, from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Monash University, say this direct sampling of gas
