Australian cardiologists have discovered that an anti-inflammatory gout medication is an effective treatment for acute coronary syndrome.

The drug, colchicine, reduces local cardiac inflammation, decreasing the likelihood of a secondary event.
The doctors say the discovery, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, paves the way for a new treatment regime.
