Aussies help solve regenerative medicine challenge

Australian and US scientists have teamed up to manufacture intricate vascular networks, potentially solving one of the biggest challenges in the creation of complex organs such as hearts, lungs and livers.

They say the networks facilitate adequate nutrient supply to manufactured organs, promoting better cell survival, differentiation and proliferation than previously achieved.

Although the development takes the creation of viable 3D-printed organs closer to clinical reality, this is a number of years away, says the University of Sydney’s Dr Luiz
