Australian sleep guidelines revised
Australian sleep experts have adopted new guidelines from the US on how much sleep people need at various life stages.
The evidence-based guidelines from the US National Sleep Foundation recommend young and middle-aged adults get 7-9 hours sleep a night, but this doesn’t have to be unbroken.
The breakdown for each age group is:
- Newborns should be getting 14-17 hours’ sleep a day, revised from the previously recommended 12-18 hours;
- Infants should sleep 12-15 hours (previously 14-15 hours),
