Is this Australia’s longest-serving doctor’s receptionist?

With more than 50 years behind the desk, Carol Connole could be Australia’s longest-serving doctor’s receptionist.

She has witnessed the introduction of Medicare, the demise of GPs doing appendicectomies and has embraced the internet age, while remaining a constant presence at the Bridge Medical Centre in Narrabri, rural NSW.

“There isn’t much I do the same as when I started,” she said.

Ms Connole was just 17 when she set out for her first shift at Doctor Horsley’s Practice, as the clinic was called in 1965.
