Axing of dental scheme ‘a relief’ for GPs

Thousands of GPs being pressured to write reverse referrals for Medicare-funded dental care are expected to “breathe a sigh of relief” with the Federal Government’s decision to ditch the chronic disease dental scheme.

Making the announcement on Wednesday, Federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek said, from 2014, the government would pour $4 billion into dental care targeted at children, adults on low incomes and rural dental care.
