Baby formula makers deny breaking rules

Infant formula manufacturers deny they are breaking regulations that prohibit the use of health and nutritional claims.

A study by Sydney researchers has reported that 25 infant formula websites were breaching the food standards code in July 2014.

Their snapshot survey found that all the sites were making at least one of the health claims that are banned under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.

Claims included “helps support brain and eye development”, “for formula babies with regurgitation” and “provides essential ingredients for growth and development”, the researchers
