Backlog bungle: 15,000 provider numbers delayed

Medicare is apparently struggling to clear a backlog of 15,000 provider number applications from doctors across Australia.

The claim is being made after the Department of Health said the bureaucratic bungle which left some 250 GP registrars without Medicare provider numbers had already been fixed.

But on Thursday RDAA president Dr Ewen McPhee said there were rumours that officials are still faced with the job of clearing 15,000 provider number applications from doctors wanting to move to new practices.
