Bariatric surgery boost for WA

Access to publicly funded bariatric surgery is to become better targeted in WA, as the state moves to bring access criteria into line with the rest of Australia.

As of late last year, patients in WA referred for surgery in public hospitals need to meet standardised, best-practice criteria, based on what is used in NSW.

These include being aged between 16-55, having significant obesity-related comorbidity and a BMI of at least 40kg/m2
