Bateman still a big political spender

Primary Health Care boss Dr Edmund Bateman gave $50,000 to the Liberal Party last financial year, according to new figures, which also show major political expenditure by Pfizer, the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and Medicines Australia.

But Dr Bateman’s donation in 2010-11 was just one fifth of what he gave ahead of the 2010 Federal election – when his $250,300 gift to the Liberal Party made him the country’s biggest individual political donor.

The figures come from this year’s annual report on financial disclosure returns, released by the electoral commission last Friday.

Not all of the payments shown in the report are direct cash donations. Many are for tickets to attend political dinners and functions.
