Behind the news - AGPN vs AMA on Medicare Locals

THE last of the 111 divisions of general practice are set to disappear from 1 July as the primary healthcare industry adjusts to the brave new world of Medicare Locals.

That means the national body overseeing divisions – the AGPN – no longer has a role (or funding) and last week the federal government confirmed the AGPN would be charged with setting up a whole new body for the 62 MLs, to be called the Australian Medicare Local Network.

With the rollout of MLs now underway, the issue continues to divide the AGPN and the AMA.
