Being overweight just once is life-limiting
Being overweight or obese at any time in adulthood is linked to an early death, according to a 16-year study of more than 225,000 people.
The findings contradict previous research that suggests carrying excess weight may be protective against dying from heart and other diseases.
They also highlight the importance of refining risk assessment to go beyond a single BMI measurement.
The study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, examined risks for all-cause and cause-specific death associated with being overweight or obese.
