Benzo scripts are getting bigger
The number of benzodiazepine prescriptions may have seen a modest drop but the quantity per script has increased, according to Australian research.
A 20-year study in benzodiazepine dispensing shows despite an overall decline in prescriptions and defined daily doses, the actual quantity per script is at an all-time high.
Almost all major forms of benzodiazepines except alprazolam and diazepam were part of the downward trend.
Nonetheless, benzodiazepine prescriptions overall remain at high levels. More than 174 million prescriptions were recorded over the 20-year study period from 1992.
