A better future ahead for senior active doctors
THE Australian Doctors’ Fund (ADF) proposal for the registration of ‘Senior Active’ doctors calls for the creation of a new category of medical registration that can be nominated by any doctor over 55 years of age.
Five options of limited practice are offered. The choice of registering as a Senior Active doctor would be entirely optional, as many doctors would want to continue on the general register past the age of 55 years.
The proposal was developed by the ADF after extensive consultation with practising doctors at all stages of their professional career, and after consideration of concerns with previous models. Registration in the Senior Active category requires:
- doctors to stay on the register
- doctors to have an annual medical checkup
- a qualified medical colleague to endorse the proposer’s choice of category of limited practice
