Big Pharma ran unethical trials in E. Germany

Western pharmaceutical companies paid the former East German regime millions to conduct secret and often unethical drug trials involving tens of thousands of patients, a German documentary has revealed.

Hundreds of clinical trials were set up in more than 50 East German hospitals during the 1980s in hidden deals brokered between companies such as Hoescht and Schering and the East German health ministry, according to a program that aired last week on German TV.
