A dose of birdwatching, rambling and beach walking will soon be rolling off the prescription pads of Scottish GPs to help patients with chronic illnesses.

Along with conventional treatments for mental illness, diabetes, heart disease, stress and other conditions, National Health Service Shetland has authorised GPs working in the archipelago’s 10 surgeries to provide ‘nature prescriptions’.
