Bowel screening to be expanded

The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program will be expanded to every five years for all those aged 50 to 70 the Federal Government has announced, but advocates have criticised the move for falling short of introducing recommended two-yearly screens.

Under the expansion plan additional screenings will be provided to people turning 60 from 2013 and 70 from 2015, health minister Tanya Plibersek said on Saturday, ahead of Tuesday's Federal budget.
