Boycott Pfizer, pharmacists urge GPs

GPs have been urged to boycott Pfizer products when possible as frustration continues to simmer among pharmaceutical wholesalers, following the company’s decision to supply products directly to pharmacies.

Almost 90% of 217 pharmacists surveyed by Galaxy Research indicated they would prefer GPs to prescribe non-Pfizer products if an alternative was available.

The survey results follow the direct distribution model adopted by Pfizer in February that effectively cut government-regulated wholesalers out of the supply chain.

Patrick Davies, president of industry-led advocacy group National Pharmaceutical Services Association – whose membership comprises Sigma Pharmaceuticals and Symbion Pharmacy Services – said the Galaxy survey was clear evidence the pharmacy sector was angry.
