BP measurements a bit hit and miss

A large Australian study has highlighted the need to improve accuracy in blood pressure measuring.

The comprehensive analysis of blood pressure data taken over seven decades found significant uncertainty in the accuracy of BP readings measured with an upper arm cuff in those with the mid-range BP.

The authors say the findings have implications for clinical decisions around diagnosis and management.

Their study included three meta-analyses using data from the 1950s to 2016 that measured intra-arterial aortic BP, intra-arterial brachial BP and cuff BP.
