British GPs back expanded role for pharmacists

GPs, nurses and emergency medics in the UK are backing calls to promote pharmacies as the first port of call for patients with minor ailments.

The message that pharmacists should be seen as “more than just prescription dispensers”, was highlighted in a letter to the editor, published in The Times, signed by representatives of 23 health groups, including the Royal College of General Practitioners - see below.

The public backing for an expanded scope of practice for British pharmacists contrasts with a call by the
