Bungle: 100s of GPs left without provider numbers
Hundreds of doctors, including GP registrars, are stuck without provider numbers, with the Federal Government accused of incompetence.
The normal wait for provider numbers is meant to be a maximum of 28 days, however, the wait has apparently blown out to more than 40 days.
This has left some practices in limbo, unable to bring in doctors to work because without provider numbers, their patients cannot access Medicare subsidies.
Many GP registrars, who started their training this month, have also been caught up in the fiasco.
The issue was raised in Federal Parliament on Tuesday.
